There is an old expression "burning the candle at both ends" which refers to someone working quickly to finish a project. In the case of the Valley Metro Light Rail, they are *building* at both ends!
Construction is underway to extend the Light Rail system in both Mesa and Phoenix. The Mesa segment is expected to open four new stations in August 2015 with two additional stations planned.
In Phoenix, the expansion is divided into two phases, which are scheduled to be completed in 2016 and 2026, respectively.
Phase I is currently underway and will be completed sometime next year. The 3.2 mile extension will extend the tracks north from 19th Ave and Montebello to 19th Ave and Dunlap Ave. There will be three new stations located at Glendale, Northern, and Dunlap Ave.
The approximate cost to build this phase of the expansion is $300 million dollars, to come from tax revenues approved by voters.
Phase II will take the train across I-17 to the Transit Center at Metrocenter, with a scheduled completion date of 2026. It is not yet known if the train will cross over or under the freeway. ADOT is currently doing planning studies which will be completed in 2017. I will be very interested to see how this project turns out!

The light rail is too dangerous for females or pretty much anyone to ride, Id rather sit in traffic! what a waste of funds, Just like the wrong way driver warning system, If they just put up the metal spikes you see when you leave a park and if you go backwards(or the wrong way) it damages your tires!!! also the photo radar that was a huge joke! Seriously what will they think of next??
