LEGO KidsFest 2013 Coming to Glendale

The LEGO KidsFest, a giant nationally-traveling LEGO expo, is coming to Arizona for the first time, Friday, July 12 – Sunday, July 14, 2013 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.

This hands-on, educational, all-ages LEGO extravaganza features millions of LEGO bricks not to mention lots of construction zones, dozens of life-sized LEGO models and displays, LEGO Games, and so much more covering over three acres of space.

Exploring Hunt's Tomb

Although I have lived in Phoenix all my life, it wasn't until recently that I made time to check out Hunt's Tomb. Located in Papago Park, Hunt's Tomb is the final resting place of Arizona's first governor, George WP Hunt.

His tomb is unusual because it is not located in a cemetery. Instead, he is interred in a gleaming white pyramid on a hill top in Papago Park. The 20-foot tall pyramid is visible from almost everywhere in the park.

George Wiley Paul Hunt was a man of great character. Born in Missouri in 1859, he came out west to Arizona at the age of 22. His travels brought him to Globe, Arizona, which was a booming copper mining town.

At long last, the age of the electric car is upon us. It is becoming more and more common to see pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles such as the Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Volt, and others humming around town.

The most commonly found type of electric vehicle charger in Phoenix is the Blink network, which uses the industry-standard J1772 connector. These pedestal chargers are classified as Level 2 ("L2") chargers because they have a 240-volt AC output.

The Art of Video Games Exhibit Coming to Phoenix Art Museum

The Magnavox Odyssey. The Atari 2600. ColecoVision, Commodore, Sega, and Nintendo. For many of us, these were the machines of our childhood. But are video games more than just mindless entertainment? Can they be considered art? One man thinks so.

His name is Chris Melissinos, and he is the curator of the exhibit "The Art of Video Games."

This exhibit was organized by the Smithsonian American Art Museum and is on a 10-city nationwide tour through the year 2016. This summer, the exhibit will be on display at the Phoenix Art Museum.
