Happy Valley Park and Ride Opening in January 2011

Dec 30, 2010

Happy Valley Park and RideAre you tired of fighting the stop and go traffic as you drive to work each day? If you live in North Phoenix and work downtown, those frustrating days of commuting may soon come to an end. That's because Valley Metro is now putting the finishing touches on a new park-and-ride facility which is scheduled to open next month.

The Happy Valley Park and Ride is a new facility under construction at 24700 N. 29th Avenue in North Phoenix. When completed, it will allow commuters in the far north part of town to leave their vehicles in a covered, security-patrolled lot and take an express bus to downtown Phoenix. This will not only help reduce congestion on the freeways during rush hour, but it will also help the environment by reducing pollution from vehicle emissions.

Phoenix FBI Office GroundbreakingEarlier this year, we reported on the new FBI headquarters which is scheduled to be built in North Phoenix. Now, progress is underway on the new facility. The total contract for the new Phoenix FBI office is $154.5 million dollars, with $62 million dollars of that total going towards the building's construction. The rest is to cover the 20-year operating contract the FBI has with the building's operator. The building is scheduled to be completed in March of 2012.

Santa Visits Deer Valley Airport

Dec 7, 2010

Terminal at Deer Valley AirportIf you live in North Phoenix and want to take your little ones to visit Santa, you'll have the chance to do so at our very own Deer Valley Airport! Christmas in the desert has always been a little different here in Phoenix. Because there is no snow for a sleigh, Santa has to resort to other ways of getting around - like a helicopter!

This December, Santa will be flying in via chopper to visit with local residents. This is the fourth year in a row that Santa will be stopping by at KDVT before Christmas. You can meet him at the Deer Valley Airport Restaurant, which is open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Visits will last for a few hours and begin at the times scheduled below:

The other day, I came across a fantastic posting on a message board where people were sharing their memories of growing up in Phoenix. One person started the discussion off with a list of their favorite memories and others quickly joined in. Here is the original post (mirrored here in case the other site goes down):

You Lived in Phoenix in the 60s, 70s, and 80s If...
You remember when Bell Road (especially through Glendale) was the considered edge of civilization. There was nothing there but tumbleweeds and prairie dogs. Now, it's where you go to run all your errands. Or if you were traveling eastbound on Bell Rd. the sign that said 'Scottsdale- 21 miles.'

Your parents took you to Legend City, the only theme park in Phoenix.

Mornings were spent watching 'The Wallace and Ladmo Show.' When it was over, it was time to leave for school. 'Ladmo Bags'.
