Deer Valley's newest high rise hotel is getting close to completion.
The hotel is currently under construction at 23rd Avenue and Pinnacle Peak Road, just East of Interstate 17. When the 7-story structure is finished, it will be the new home of Drury Inn and Suites. With a total of 180 rooms, the Drury will be the largest hotel in North Phoenix.
Drury is a family-owned hotel chain that was first founded in Missouri. Arizona's first Drury Hotel opened in Flagstaff earlier this year. The Drury Inn and Suites Happy Valley will be their second Arizona location. Additionally, Drury owns and operates 115 hotels in 17 states according to their website.
The main idea behind Drury Hotels is that "The extras aren't extra." That means guests enjoy amenities for free, instead of paying hidden fees like at competing hotels. Drury provides a free breakfast, free beverages, free in-room coffee, free high speed Internet, and an unheard-of 60 minutes of long-distance telephone calls with every stay!
On top of that, Drury Inn and Suites also provides a 24-hour Business Center, a guest pantry, and microwaves and refrigerators in ALL of the guest rooms! That sure sounds like a lot of extras to me.
I know it seems like I write about another new hotel opening up every few months, but this place seems pretty cool. I like the idea of getting more amenities without spending more money. The property is very visible from the freeway and you can bet it will do very well.
It's exciting to see a construction project of this size underway in North Phoenix, where most of the buildings are one or two stories tall. This seven-story hotel looks gigantic compared to the four-story headquarters of OneAZ Credit Union next door.
Can the other hotels in the area stand up to competition like this? We'll just have to wait and find out.
