In a previous article about the Ro Ho En Japanese Friendship Garden, I mentioned that Phoenix and Himeji, Japan are International Sister Cities. Now, a new photographic exhibit at Method Art Gallery in Old Town Scottsdale brings these two cities together 'Through Each Others Eyes.'
The name refers to both the exhibit and the non-profit organization that put the exhibition together. The 'Through Each Others Eyes' features photos of Japan through the eyes of two Phoenix-area photographers and images of Arizona through the eyes of two Japanese photographers.
The exhibition opened on Thursday, June 3rd, 2011 at Method Art Gallery. It will be on display through the end of June, at which point the exhibit will move to the main branch of Wells Fargo Bank at 100 W. Washington Street in downtown Phoenix, AZ. The exhibit will also open in Himeji, Japan, at the Egret Art Center in the Fall of 2011.
From the traditional symbols of Japan like sumo and geisha to Arizona's Grand Canyon and the red rocks of Sedona, this exhibit really brings our two cities closer together through the art of photography and education.
Method Art Gallery is open until 9pm on Thursdays as part of the Scottsdale Art Walk. Be sure to check it out; you'll be glad you did!
