The sixteen National Parks and Monuments scattered throughout Arizona are some of our state's greatest treasures. If you have been waiting for that perfect time to visit one, this weekend is it!This weekend is one of the rare "Fee-Free Weekends" sponsored by the National Park Service, where all admission fees are waived. Yes, that includes the Grand Canyon!
Over 100 National Parks across the country will be taking part in the second of three "Fee-Free Weekends" for 2009. The complete list of participating parks and monuments is posted on the NPS website.
This is great news for Arizona for several reasons. First, it will encourage people from other states to visit us. Second, it provides an inexpensive way for people to enjoy a family vacation this summer without spending a fortune. Third, it offers Arizona residents the chance to explore some of our state's most historic and significant places at an unbeatable price - for free!
Arizona is one of the most unique states in terms of scenery and climate, and there is always something new to see and do. I have always been an advocate of enjoying Arizona, and I invite you to do the same.
